Obituary for Ralph Carter

Carter, Ralph

Passed away at the age of 92 on Friday, June 4, 2021, surrounded by the love of his family. Ralph was predeceased by his adoring wife Irene, as well as his brothers Jim, George, Jack, Morley & Keith. He will be missed by his children Doug (Frances) and Lori (Greg), Irene’s children David (Debbie) and Donna (Chris), his grandchildren Shawna-Marie, Leslie (Tom), Braden (Carol), Devin, Mac and Chris as well as his great-grandchildren Ben, Jodie, Madison and Samantha.

Our family is very grateful for the exceptional care and support the team at Royal Gardens Retirement Residence provided to Dad, Irene and our family. We also want to thank the staff at Peterborough Regional Health Centre for their care and compassion. Ralph was a very talented and creative artist, especially in soapstone carving, wood carving and woodburning. He was very proud of the time he spent with young offenders, sharing his experiences and helping them create pieces they were proud of. Ralph grew up in a family of entertainers and loved to sing. For many years he sang in the Seniors Jubilee at Roy Thompson Hall and the Mayor’s New Year’s Levee in Kitchener.

Even throughout his last week, Dad often sang a few bars, including lines from ‘Til We Meet Again’. He enjoyed playing crokinole with his granddaughters, regular games of billiards, and sharing stories of his boxing days and the road trips he and Irene took throughout Ontario. Treasured memories, for sure. Arrangements have been entrusted to Ashburnham Funeral Home in Peterborough. When we are able, a celebration of Ralph’s life will be held so that stories and memories can be shared.

As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Sunnyside Foundation - Waterloo Region, 247 Franklin Street North, Kitchener, Ontario N2A 1Y5; the Royal Gardens Residents Council, 1160 Clonsilla Ave., Peterborough, Ontario K9J 8P8; or to a charity of your choice.
